The architectural layout of the Old Town, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is an extraordinary monument preserved in an unchanged form since the Middle Ages. The beginnings of confirmed settlement in this area back to the 8th century, the remains of relics of the old Vistula settlements were found in many places in the Market Square.
The first city of Krakow associated with the episcopacy erected in 1000, mainly covered the area of the Old Market - here the most important events took place, and the royal insignia were also kept, because after all Krakow was the capital. The most important monuments included in the Old Town are the St. Mary's Church, the Cloth Hall and the Town Hall Tower, it is surrounded by Planty, a green belt of the city, as well as the Florian Gate and the Barbican.
